Kinsmen of Rt. Hon. Lawman Duruji, the former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, who was kidnapped last weekend, has appealed to the state government and security agencies to expedite action and effect his safe release from captivity.
A letter to Governor Hope Uzodinma, signed by Comrade Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, KSC, President General, Nsu Development Union, NDU and Barr. Mike Onyekachi, Secretary General, NDU, entitled: “Abduction of Rt. Honourable Lawman Duruji, A call for his safety and quick intervention by the state government and security agencies,” read: “It is a notorious fact that our brother and son, Rt. Honourable Lawman Duruji former Speaker and member Imo State House of Assembly was abducted by unknown gunmen on Saturday, 8th of January, 2022 at Umuezeala Nsu, Ehime Mbano.

“He has not been released since then.
“We have been in fervent prayers for his safety and quick release, as contact is yet to be made by the supposed abductors.
“We appeal to the state government to move the security agencies so as to intensify their efforts for his timeous release and in good health.
“We know that insecurity is a general problem in Nigeria but we will not lose trust in God and faith in our government.

“We, therefore, call on every well meaning individual to remain in prayer and also appeal to the state government and security agencies to nip in the bud this ugly trend now ravaging our society.”
The letter was also copied to
Minister of Education (State),
Commissioner of Police Imo State
Director of SSS Imo State
Sen. Frank Ibezim (Senator, representing Okigwe Zone) and the four traditional rulers in Nsu Clan.
It also appealed to Duruji’s abductors to be considerate and release him immediately without any hurt.
The former speaker was attacked and abducted while returning from a function on Saturday amidst heavy gunfire.
