Kidnapped Edo Catholic priest: Police nab 2 suspects

 

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two persons suspected to be connected with the kidnap of a Catholic priest in the state, Rev Fr. Thomas Oyode.

Oyode, who is the rector of the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School in Ivanokpodi, Agenegbode, Etsako East local government of Edo State, was on Sunday abducted when gunmen attacked the seminary during evening service.

Umoru Ozigi, the State Commissioner of Police, on Wednesday announced the arrest of the suspects while parading seven suspects arrested for various crimes in Benin City.

“the Command has responded to the unfortunate incident of the kidnap of Rev. Fr. Thomas Oyode from Diocesan Minor Seminary in Agenebode by rejigging the security architecture in the area,” Ozigi said.

“The security rejigging was in synergy with the Community through the deployment of a Unit of Police Mobile Force (PMF).

“Two suspects have been arrested in this regard, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the Reverend Father and apprehend others.”
