TRICYCLE OPERATOR, YOUTHS CLASH IN YENAGOA: GOV. DIRI IMPOSES 11-HOUR RESTRICTION ON COMMERCIAL TRICYCLES

Isaac Ombe – Yenagoa

Following the clash between a tricycle rider and a Yenagoa community youth which led to the loss of lives, the state government has imposed an 11-hour restriction on commercial tricycle movement in the state capital Yenagoa.

The restriction will be in force until peace returns to the state capital.
This was the outcome of a meeting between the government and stakeholders of the community where the incident occurred.

At the meeting, Governor Douye Diri directed that the movement of commercial tricycles would be between 6 am and 7 pm daily.

The meeting which took place at the Government House had in attendance traditional rulers, leadership of the tricycle operators, representatives of the Arewa community in the state as well as youths of the Yenizue-Epie community and other stakeholders.

Governor Diri said the restriction became necessary to calm frayed nerves and to restore peace in the area.
The governor who stated that the restriction order will last until the situation improved also cautioned against reprisal attacks.

While stressing that government would not fold its arms and watch people take the laws into their hands.
Senator Diri, however, noted that there was no conflict between Bayelsans and the Arewa community in the state and warned those engaging in ethnic profiling to stop.

According to the governor, Bayelsans and other ethnic nationalities had existed harmoniously from the creation of the state, and that the peaceful coexistence would be maintained.

The governor reassured non-natives in the state of their safety as they went about their legitimate businesses and called on residents to report any security breach to the security agencies for necessary action.
