The last may not have been heard about the dethronement, detention and banishment of the former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, following the suspension, on Monday, of some lawmakers by the Kano State House of Assembly.
Some members of the Assembly had attempted to interrupt proceedings of the House when the House committee, which investigated former Emir Sanusi was about to submit its report, recommending his dethronement. This resulted in a fracas that forced the house to adjourn its sitting.
On resumption on Monday the speaker of the House, Abdulazeez Gafasa, announced the suspension of some members for six months in connection with last week’s brawl in the House.
The speaker explained that “the five members were suspended for violating the rules of the house, especially Order IV Sub 4 a, b, d and e, disrupted the sittings of the house and prevented proceedings from going on.
“They behaved violently and even attempted to snatch away the mace in a clear attempt to sabotage the sitting of the house.”
Those suspended are Mohammed Bello, representing Rimingado/Tofa constituency; Isyaku Ali Danja, representing Gezawa Constituency; Labaran Abdul Madari, representing Warawa Constituency; Salisu Ahmed Gwamgwazo, representing Kano Municipal; and Garba Yau Gwarmai, representing Kunchi/Tsanyawa Constituency.
