Kaduna ministerial nominee slumps during screening, revived

... Cleared with two others

Balarabe Lawal, a Kaduna ministerial nominee, on Wednesday, slumped during screening by the Senate.
Lawal had just responded to a question about his educational background before slumping at the podium, thereby throwing the Senate chambers into confusion.

Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, quickly called for water and sugar to be administered to him and immediately called for a closed session.

Lawal had been nominated as replacement for Nasir El-Rufai, immediate past former Governor of Kaduna State, who could not scale through screening by the Senate.

Sen. Yemi Adaramodu, Spokesman, had announced the Lawal’s revival.

However, Lawal was later cleared alongside two other nominees that President Bola Tinubu had sent to the Senate for confirmation as ministers.

The other nominees included Jamila Bio-Ibrahim (Kwara), and Ayodele Olawande (Ondo State).

The additional three brings the total number of ministers to 48.

The Senate had on August 7, 2023 confirmed 45 out of 48 ministerial nominees sent to it by President Bola Tinubu.

During the screening, Bio-Ibrahim, the youthful Kwara nominee, 37, spoke passionately about her desire for the Nigerian youths, adding that her nomination was an opportunity “to contribute my quota to nation:building in a government that has given unprecedented priority to youths.”
