The Supreme Court, on Friday, dismissed a suit filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his vice, Kashim Shettima.
The PDP had prayed the court to disqualify the duo due to the double nomination of Shettima as Senatorial candidate in Borno State, and vice predisential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the February 25 presidential election.
However, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court held that the PDP did not have the right to institute the action.

The PDP had argued that Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate was in breach of the provisions of sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
The opposition party argued that Shettima’s nomination to contest the position of vice-president and Borno central senatorial seat — at the same time — contravened the law.
But the Supreme Court described the party as a meddler, saying it did not have any business with the internal affairs of the APC.
