There are conflicting reports oozing out of the Presidency and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over reported Presidential approval for extension of collection of old Naira notes till May 1, 2023.
On Tuesday morning, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Hajia Aisha Buhari, had twitted that the apex bank had been asked to recirculate the old notes and make it valid until May 1.
Following the First Lady’s tweet, several chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), followed suit as they shared on their various social media group.
But the CBN, not long after that, described the First Lady’s information as ‘fake news’ in a release issued to counter Aisha Buhari’s claim on the matter.
The CBN’s denial of the report was done via its twitter page which read:
