The National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, Ikeja chapter, on Friday elected it’s new executive council.

The new executives were elected and sworn into office to replace the Mr Henry Ojelu-led executive, which served for a single term of two years.

The new EXCO is led by Mr Wahab Akinlade of Bond FM, as Chairman,  Moji Eniola of News Agency of Nigeria, NAN as Vice Chairman, Yetunde Ojo of Law FM as Secretary,   Stephen Aya of Thisday Newspaper as Treasurer, and Ayodele Olalere of Nigerian Xpress Newspaper as Financial Secretary.

They were unanimously elected by all the members present during the election and were sworn in by legal practitioner, Alhaji  Wahab Abdullah.

Speaking after the election, the new chairman, Mr. Wahab Akinlade emphasized the need to work together. He said there are some issues on the ground that needs to be corrected.

“There will be no personal briefs.  We shall work together and enjoy ourselves together. I encourage everybody to show some commitment by going to court regularly. It is when we show active reporting that people will take us seriously. I say no to the selective invitation, we will work together in unity. I will be transparent and accountable at all times.  No need to talk of personal briefs. Let’s work together as one big family”, he said.

He said he is proposing stipends for members who are active in coming to court to feed others with reports. “We will bring to the floor policy that will unite all of us”, he said.

Also speaking, Ayodele Olalere said he will work in line with the way things are done in every other beat. “The strong will carry the weak, every member will benefit from this exco and I look forward to a good working relationship with all”, he said.

Also speaking, the Vice-Chairman, Moji Eniola said,  “We need to work on feedback, will also take criticism”, she said, adding that there was backbiting in the past EXCO because there was no transparency.

“Basically, it’s a partnership, we are here to serve not to lord it over you.  Speak up your mind and let us discuss it together.  There should be constructive criticism.

“We will be accountable in all areas and we will work with the constitution.  Every meeting, finance will be discussed, no matter how small. We have to tighten our belt to be financially buoyant”, she said.

Also speaking, Wahab Abdullah thanked the electoral committee for being able to hold the election.  He urged the EXCO to carry everyone along.

In his advice, Mr. Mustapha Ogunsakin, a former member of the association, urged the new EXCO to bring back professionalism and integrity to the beat.
