After weeks of speculations since the sack of Gernot Rohr as the Super Eagles’ manager, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Wednesday, finally confirmed Jose Peseiro as the new coach for Nigeria.
He becomes the first coach of the Nigeria national team to have come from Portugal. He is also the 26th foreign coach to handle Nigeria since the ad-hoc arraignment the then Nigeria Football Association had with John Finch in 1949 during the famed UK Tourists.
The announcement of Jose Peseiro came from the communiqué of the video conference meeting of the executive committee of the NFF.

It stated that the choice of Peseiro came from the memo presented by the Chairman of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
Peseiro will however be at the Africa Cup of Nations as an observer while Austin Eguavoen will handle the team.
The Portuguese will thereafter take over while Eguavoen will revert to his role as Technical Director and thus hence Peseiro’s immediate boss.
