Jamb will not compromise it’s admission processes, state coordinator tells VCs

The Ogun State Coordinator, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Hakeem AbdulHameed, has said that the Board will not compromise on its rules and regulations on admission processes.

He therefore urged schools to abide by the regulations to avoid future problems for candidates and institutions alike.

Hakeem spoke while addressing the newly-appointed Vice-Chancellors of Covenant University, Ota, Prof. Timothy A. Anake as well as Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Prof. Oyedunni Arologun, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office between December 8 and 12, 2024.

The coordinator told the visitors that the only way to achieve credible admissions is through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), adding that the ongoing confirmation of all admissions processed outside CAPS between 2017 and 2020 as submitted by affected institutions would not have been necessary if the right process was followed.

He noted that any illegal admission done before 2016 must go through a confirmation process and enjoined the officials to adhere to all advisories issued by the board on the admission process.

While responding to clarification sought by the Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University on transferred students, the Head, Matriculation Monitoring Unit, Mrs. Kafayat Ibiwoye, explained that students in the Local Transfer category must have spent a session or more in a university before seeking transfer to another.

She said some students have failed to secure local transfer because the course offered by the new institution was not accredited in the year the student gained admission.

Concerning transfer from a foreign university, she said the student must also have spent a session or more before transferring, adding that candidate must be placed at a level where they must remain for two sessions before graduating.

The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Prof. Anake, said the university has won an award for “Compliance with Admission Guidelines” in the 2020 edition of NATAP-M organised by the Board.

He, therefore, expressed his desire to ensure compliance with all advisories not just because he would love such to be recorded during his administration but because doing so is the only way.
