JAMB warns candidates not to accept admission not offered through CAPS

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions not to accept admissions not offered through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

The warning is a sequel to the instruction from the Federal Ministry of Education, instructing JAMB to enforce the mandatory use of the CAPS for all tertiary institutions in the country.
The ministry issued the directive following the submission of a report by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, established to investigate allegations of certificate racketeering involving foreign institutions, particularly in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the then permanent secretary, now Head of Service of the Federation, conveyed the minister’s request for implementation of the report’s recommendations.

JAMB had automated the CAPS platform to eliminate biases and abuses associated with manual admissions.

However, JAMB lamented that some institutions had been admitting outside the platform, preferring to perpetuate unacceptable practices.

The Board said the ministry’s directive reinforced its commitment to closing avenues for illegal admissions.
