It’s time to fight for good governance – Coalition charges Nigerians

Razaq Bamidele
A pro-democracy organisation, Coalition for Democracy in Nigeria (CODIN), has charged Nigerians that the time to fight for good governance in the country is now condemning the lethargy on the path of the citizenry towards the fight for their rights on issues that put their social economic rights in jeopardy.

This was contained in a statement signed by the President and Convenor of the Coalition, Comrade Mashood Erubami and made available to the media houses calling on Nigerians to stand up and fight for their rights and support the current government that is determined to make life better.

According to the Coalition’s leader, the current government on the saddle in Nigeria appears determined to “create conducive social, economic and political environment for peaceful, secured and corrupt free existence for all so as to be able to work through the Agents of State who are bent on thwarting the pro-people measures on the sleeve of the Tinubu/Shettima progressive government.”

The group pin-pointed that, “the government in our land today is very difficult and tough and so, tough decisions must be taken to resolve the challenges inherited by it from the outgone government,” lamenting that, “those who created the excruciating social economic pains on the people in the past years are still in government and are still committed to guiding the present government to embark on the same backward integration that traumatized, dehumanized, impoverished and sentenced Nigerians into eternal poverty!”

The Coalition considered it improper for Nigerian Voters to just file out during elections and vote for the leaders who will represent them in government without giving support of assistance against all fights back from those in government that must be dethroned to create conducive and reconstructed political space for good and peaceful governance.

Comrade Erubami therefore called on the critical sectors, Professionals, labour in the formal and informal sectors, Human rights and Civil Society, Representatives of faith based institutions to stand behind the new government to ensure that strong decisions needed to move Nigeria forward are taken and implemented without hindrance from the old order.

He further noted that the decision to withdraw petroleum subsidy, a knotty economic adjustment program being vehemently pushed by Capitalist Agents in government collaborating with the World Bank which has backed the subsidy withdrawal with $800m dollars to make it attractive to outgoing government officials which has been on as the first landmine to be thrown at and forced down the throat of this administration.

The President of the group. Comrade Erubami reminded the Government that subsidy is a social comfort presently being enjoyed by the people and should not be removed in a rush before the July time fixed for it.

“Nigerians will not accept the withdrawal of subsidy without them start to enjoy the well stated and acceptable palliatives that must precede its implementation so, Tinubu government should be stern on his position to reject the attached loan from the World Bank and all stakeholders need to be informed why the government is withdrawing the subsidy and what Nigerians stand to gain.
