Israeli military can handle Iran in places near and far, says Chief of General Staff

According to Al Jazeera, Israel’s Chief of General Staff, Herzi Halevi, asserted that the Israeli military is fully prepared to handle any threat posed by Iran. Speaking in a televised address, Halevi emphasized the country’s ability to take decisive action against Iran, both in nearby regions and far-flung territories.

“We can act forcefully against Iran in places near and far. We are cooperating closely with the United States and our strategic partners in the region,” Halevi stated.

The recent escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel was triggered by Israel’s bombing of its embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on April 1. Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the Iranian army’s chief of staff, responded by asserting that Tehran would carefully choose the timing and manner of its retaliation.

Veteran Israeli experts suggest that Iran is unlikely to retaliate directly against Israel, opting instead for selective tactical attacks through proxies.

Diplomats and analysts posit that Iran’s leadership, cautious of risking its hold on power, prefers to avoid all-out conflict with Israel or the US, maintaining a strategic balance while pursuing its interests through indirect means.
