INEC denies appointing APC sympathiser ICT head in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has refuted allegations that the electoral umpire appointed an apologist of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as head its ICT department in Lagos ahead of the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on March 18.

A former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George, had raised the alarm that INEC had appointed Mr. Femi Odubiyi,  a former commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State, as the Commission’s Director of ICT in the state, insisting that he must be removed because of his partisanship.

However, INEC in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, its National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, dismissed George’s allegation as false.

Okoye said: “To set the record straight, the name ‘Femi Odubiyi’ does not even exist within our ICT Department at the INEC headquarters in Abuja or any State office of the Commission,” urging the general public to disregard the report.

He insisted that that INEC’s ICT was composed of career officers, who had not held any political appointment in any state.
