The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State vacant, following the death of Hon. Isa Dogonyaro, on Friday, May 10.
This announcement was made by INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday, May 15, during a quarterly consultative meeting with media executives.
In addition to the federal constituency, INEC also announced existing vacancies in three state constituencies: Khana 2 State Constituency in Rivers state, Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency in Kano State, and Zaria Kewaye State Constituency in Kaduna State.

These vacancies were occasioned by the death or resignation of the members. Prof. Yakubu revealed that preparations are underway for bye-elections in the affected constituencies, with dates to be announced soon.
He also addressed the disrupted February 3 rerun elections in Enugu and Kano states, which were marred by violence and thuggery, leading to the suspension of the election.
Furthermore, the INEC chairman appealed to the media to support the commission in mobilising Nigerians, particularly residents of Edo and Ondo states, to participate in the ongoing continuous Voter registration exercise.

This exercise is crucial ahead of the off-cycle governorship elections in both states.
Media organisations are also encouraged to submit applications for accreditation to report on the election, along with the required documentation for individual journalists and support staff. This would ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
