Born in Calabar in 1898, he was educated in Sacred Heart, Calabar, Kings College, Lagos and then went on to study medicine in Edinburgh.
After, qualifying in 1927 he returned to Nigeria (in 1928) to join the Nigerian Medical Services.
He died in a plane crash in 1955.

Dr. Henshaw was the brother of footballer and the first player to captain the Nigeria national team Richard Etim Henshaw.
