The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, has reacted to the defection from the party of some lawmakers in the state’s House of Assembly, insisting that those defectors were insignificant in number.

Secretary of the party, in the state, Hon. Ray Emeana, told journalists, in Owerri, that those lawmakers and some other persons who left the party were among those the party have helped to grow.

He dismissed insinuations that the defectors were pushed out of the party by an internal crisis.

Hon. Emeana said that the party was still talking with the affected lawmakers on the development.

He told The Nigerian Xpress that already the APC government in the state had  promised to give them N50 million and 2 plots of land should they defect to APC

Already, eight PDP lawmakers had dumped the party for APC which included the Speaker, Hon. Chji Collins.

Others were Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West), Chigozie Nwaneri (Oru East), Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West), Kennedy Ibeh (Obowo), Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru), Michael Njoku (Ihitte Uboma) and Eddy Obinna (Aboh Mbaise).

Before now the former state chairman of PDP, Barr. Charles Ezekwem, had tendered his resignation letter from the party.

The defection of the eight members brought the total number of APC lawmakers in the Assembly from 10 to 18, with the defection of nine lawmakers, last week.

With the recent defections, the PDP is left with eight members at the House.
