Senator Athan Achonu, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for Imo State for the November election in the state, has named Chief Chime Nzeribe, as his campaign council Director General.
In a press release in Owerri on Friday, Achonu named the Oru East Local Government Area-born politician as the Director General with immediate effect.
Chief Nzeribe is the son of Dr. B U Nzeribe a former deputy speaker House of Representatives in the First Republic and running mate to the GNPP presidential candidate Waziri Ibrahim.
Chief Nzeribe, an astute towering political figure in Orlu zone, was the executive Chairman old Oru Local Government Area and then Oru East LGA.
He was also the Commissioner for Rural Development under Governor Evan Enwerem.
The new DZG has also led the apex socio-cultural group in Orlu Zone the ORLUZURUMEE.
Keen observers of the forthcoming Imo gubernatorial elections see this appointment as a declaration of intent and seriousness by Achonu, the LP gubernatorial candidate, in his quest to serve Imolites as governor and rescue the state from “inertia of the current administration”.
The announcement of Nzeribe as DG coincides with the lifting of the suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure.
Justice Hamza Muazu of an Abuja High Court, on Friday granted an order of stay execution on the suspension of Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, and others, including the National Organising Secretary, Mr. Clement Ojukwu and National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara.
This has come as a great relief to the party in the light of curious actions and utterances of the controversial ‘acting national chairman’s, Alhaji Lamidi Apampa.
