Imo lawmaker, Ibezim preaches peace at Independence anniversary, assures of better days ahead

The Senator, representing Imo North in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Sir Frank Ibezim, has urged Nigerians to eschew bitterness and co-exist in harmony.

Speaking on the occasion of Nigeria’s 62nd anniversary, the distinguished Imo lawmaker also gave assurance that regardless of the present challenges confronting the country, there is still hope for my h more glorious years.

In a statement, he urged to focus less on strife and insecurity and always put the country first above self and tribe.

“Our 62nd birthday calls for sombre reflections amongst all Nigerians young and old. Current trends and recent awareness speak to the unavoidable fact that we must indeed conquer our adversaries of today.  And let us never forget that our strength lies in our diversity.

“As Thomas J. Whitmore in the 4th of July movie illuminated, likewise, if we should win the day, the 1st of October will no longer be just a Nigerian holiday, but also the day when all Nigerians declare in one voice: “We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on!”

He added that the upcoming election offers Nigerians another opportunity to elect leaders that can take the country to greater heights and advise them to use their votes wisely instead of neglecting to vote and then complain later.

Sen. Ibezim promised his constituents in Imo North to be unrelenting in his determined efforts to represent them in the Red Chambers and continue attracting much needed democracy dividends, as he has been doing.

The distinguished senator was elected over a year ago to complete the remaining tenure of the late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu and has performed excellently well within such a short time.

He was active in different oversight functions and called for the upgrade of the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport in Owerri; he secured several major Federal Government interventions, such as the N30, 000 Survival Funds from the Bank of Industry from which not less than 400 persons of Imo North benefitted; N60,000 Special Public Works Programme, with not less than 300 beneficiaries; N500,000 Covid-19 Relief Loan, with over 200 beneficiaries; N60,000 Job Security Stipends and N100,000 National Directorate of Employment Loan, targeting not less than 600 persons.

In all, over 1000 Imo North constituents have benefitted from these intervention programmes, which have alleviated the pains and boosted the economy of many households, families and communities in the zone. There have also been many empowerment programmes, such as digital training sessions for youths, whom he gave work tools and take-off capital after their training.

He has also impacted critical areas in the zone, including education, environment and power where he installed solar-powered streetlights and enduring that the Okigwe power sub-station that was approved over 20 years ago but abandoned became a reality.

Sen. Ibezim said his going to the National Assembly was an opportunity to serve his people and reiterated his commitment to that.
