The Oluwo of Iwoland, Osun State, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has disclosed his intention to build shelters, skills acquisition centres for orphans, disables and children with special needs.
The First Class monarch made the disclosure recently while interacting with widows, vulnerable children/ orphans he feeds twice a week in his palace.
“Promoting the ability in the vulnerable, motherless and disabled children is key to ensure the stigmatized are brought to the front line of decision making, opinion building and resources allocation. To achieve this, all stakeholders most especially those with financial wherewithal are encouraged to lift these children and provide a friendly environment devoid of marginalisation, stigmatisation and hungry.

“Creating such an environment is the responsibility of you and I in our respective little and big capacity. As I host the orphans, children of special needs, disables and others in the category of the less privileged, I’m touched the more with their disposition and ready to device a means to build shelter for them in my country home, Iwo,” the Oba informed.
This humanitarian gesture, according to an observer, was not the first on his stool as the monarch, since enthronement, as he feeds children in these categories twice a week till date.
But to extend the kindness to those who stay far and could not afford transport to his palace, he invited and paid their transport fare for a jolly session involving feeding, gifts and dancing merriment.
“As a responsible traditional ruler, I’ve no excuse refusing to serve humanity irrespective of their status. Every opportune human only enjoys the grace of God. And as a monarch, my position is permanent. Politicians will come and go but monarchs will remain. We must be responsible by ensuring no one is marginalized, we must create a space for everyone around us such that, no one feels inferior.
“I host these children to brighten their hope in surviving, discover the ability and skill inbuilt and promote such to the advantage of their independency mostly financial autonomy.
“Most importantly, these children were born just like you and I but we are just privileged to be complete. We should not take the advantage to oppress them. They are part of us and our family members. We should bring them closer and provide succor at the time of their difficulties.
“I’m planning to build a shelter for them and float skill acquisition centre. The shelter will be an assemblage of orphans, children of mad women, vulnerable and special needs. Housing and clothing them will encourage easy contact with those ready to help them.

“I therefore want to challenge the difficulty encountered in accessing these my children. After building the shelter, we can effectively collaborate with governmental and non governmental organisations, international bodies and even the government to have an effective management and enough logistics.
“This arrangement is necessary to have official record of them for easy tracking- we send those in the category of students to school, pay their fees while those learning skills are placed on training. Continuously placing them on free food and gifts is not enough, an environment of excessive survival must be encouraged. They can as well be a pillar to their family with our design.
“I want to call on all well meaning Nigerians to imbibe renewed spirit of service most especially to the disadvantaged section of the nation. It is not compulsory but mandatory to breathe the air of fulfilment as expected of a responsible human. I will continue to serve humanity with my last strength, resources and connection,” concluded the monarch.
