Igbaye: Town where NGO walks its talk with community development

Razaq Bamidele

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Igbaye Development Vanguard (IGV), is living up to its objective of its establishment.

As the name implies, the organiSation, which was formed, in October, 2018, is based in Igbaye, a famous town in Odo-Otin Local Government of Osun State in 2018.

And since then, the elites that came together to float it have not rest in their oars towards turning the community into a mini construction site. They have renovated classrooms. They have built a Post Office. They have erected Court Hall.

They have been paying stipends to part time teachers. They have turned themselves to voluntary class teachers. They have been supply schools with essential texts books and Laboratory Equipment. They have been supplying and renovating faulty transformers, they have also been engaging in the correction of any faulty facility within the town and its environs.

Co-conveners of the NGO, Dr. Sunday Alayemi and Prince ‘Deoye Popoola Esqr. have severally told whoever cares to find out that, they are trying to give back to the society, what the society had earlier given them even at a time they never asked for anything.

So, when our reported visited the town recently, he discovered that the NGO is always on the move as he met workers renovating the dilapidated School Hall within the premises of the Igbaye Community High School (ICHS).

Although, none of the duo of Alayemi and Popoola was not available during the unscheduled visit of our reporter and the worker on ground could not say exactly the cost of the renovation, however, from the looks of things vis-à-vis the project, a couple of millions of Nigeria Naira must have been involved.

A source close to the co-conveners, who however pledged anonymity confided in our reporter that, the money always come from the members across the world in form of voluntary donations.

The impression any visitor would have would be about the importance of communal efforts to the development of any community because the government cannot do everything. The projects that have been touched between 2018 and now are testimony of what love, harmony, togetherness, friendship and peaceful co-existence could do.
