The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Mr Adedamola Kuti, said on Wednesday that a contractor has been mobilised to construct a Height Restriction Barrier to protect the Iddo bridge from further damage.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a portion of the outer walls of the bridge, outbound Iddo link road, was dented raising fears by some people on the social media.
Kuti told NAN in Lagos that articulated vehicles carrying loads beyond the head room of the bridge pulled off some part of the outer casing beautifying it.

He said that Borini Prono has, however, been mobilised to immediately construct a height restriction barrier to stop vehicles carrying excess load from passing under the bridge.
Kuti explained that the bridge in question, being mistaken for Carter Bridge, was a descent from the Carter bridge.
“We have already given an order to Borini Prono and Co. Nigeria Ltd to immediately construct that barrier, but it has to be fabricated in their office and brought to site,’’ he told NAN.
The Works Controller explained that in the original plan, vehicles were not supposed to pass under the bridge, but due to increase in population, a road was constructed underneath, to ease gridlock.
He said that although the beams of the bridge were structurally okay, his ministry was going to seize the opportunity of installing the height barrier to carry out other maintenance work on it.
“I want to seize this opportunity to carry out special maintenance work on the Iddo bridge. It is an opportunity to carry out repairs on the damaged casing also,’’ he said.
The controller said a procedure to set up a task force to dislodge illegal occupants under all the bridges in Lagos was still on. (NAN)
