HURIWA to NAFDAC: Save Nigerians from Kayanmata

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has pleaded with the media to sensitise Federal Government’s agencies responsible for the protection of the rights of Nigerian consumers to wake up from slumber.

The group lamented that Nigerians’ rights are being trampled upon, thereby calling on the agency to save citizens from abuses and violations of the legal and constitutional rights.

The human rights advocacy group called on Federal Government’s agencies to protect Nigerians, especially in the face of what looks like a deluge of Kayanmata.

The group noted that there are currently many other unverified and unscientific products that are being circulated and sold both online and in the traditional marketplaces.

HURIWA said that citizens are deceived into believing in the efficacy of these products, which some of them are allegedly meant to enhance their sexual lifestyle.

Addressing the press in Abuja on Wednesday, the national coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, said it was worrisome that the seemingly growing global demand for sex-related products and increasing awareness of sexual wellness are spurring a boom in the global sex industry amid rising demand for lingerie, contraceptives, condoms, lubricants, sex toys, among others.

HURIWA, during the press conference, called on NAFDAC and other relevant regulatory agencies to wake up from slumber and protect vulnerable Nigerians from such products.

The group said innocent citizens must not be duped while searching for products such as sexual enhancers, especially when these products are yet to be authenticated and accredited.
