How to use GAIN for employment, security, IGR – Adegbuyi

A former Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST), Asiwaju Bisi Adegbuyi Esqr., has explained the importance of his new baby, the Grassroots Addressing and Identity Network (GAIN), to creation of employment, address security challenges and facilitate a boost in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), wherever its put in use.

The Ogun State-born lawyer and member of the 2014 National Conference, who is the Founder and Lead Visioner of GAIN said, the project will help in exploring the use of technology to boost revenue generation, curb acts of criminality and facilitate opening of several avenues for job opportunities.

Adegbuyi made the disclosure in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital City, Nigeria recently on the latest initiative at the DAWN Commission headquarters where he also informed that, “the new addressing system would also assist governments at various levels to tackle the menace of joblessness and security challenges when it becomes operational,” adding, “it will also revolutionise the addressing system in Nigeria.”

It was against this backdrop of its importance that the Development Agenda of the Western Nigeria (DAWN), has indicated preparedness to partner with it to explore the use of technology to create a new and effective addressing formula for all their locations in the rural and urban areas of the zone in line with what the promoter’s assurance that, “it will help boost the IGR drives of Local Governments (LGs), and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the region.”

While pointing out that the future of the world would rest squarely on technology, Adegbuyi said, going by the nature of the Western Region since the time immemorial as lovers of education advancement, the zone would not ignore the new initiative but embrace and imbibe it, asserting that the zone would seize the opportunity of its youthful population to digitalise its addressing system and Post Code.

According to him, the country is undergoing stress and the Federal Government is biting more than it can chew and so, it is imperative for the states and the council areas to “ramp up efforts and begin to come up with solutions that could engender development in terms of security and economy,” noting that, the digitalized address system being spearheaded by GAIN will have all tiers of government unique identifier for the area and figures from individual’s phone numbers.

His words: “We will start with the addressing system and in few years, the multiplier effect of the value chain will generate employment, increase IGR at the local and state levels and enhance security. Business will blossom e-commerce will grow exponentially.”

The DAWN Director-General, Seye Oyeleye in his remarks on the occasion praised GAIN for the novel initiative, saying, if the initiative is properly implemented, it will fast track sout-west zone’s development.

He, therefore promised that the region would guide the process for the region to adopt it because of the benefit it would gain from it.

In his own countribution, Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afueape said the initiative, if properly handled, would solve a whole lot of problems presently confronting the region.
