The dream of the Speaker of House of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, to bag a chieftaincy title in the ancient town of Oyo has gone down the drain following the death of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, on Friday morning.
Shortly after the announcement of the death of the monarch, it was revealed arrangements had earlier been concluded for the speaker to be honoured with the chieftaincy title of ‘Aare Baasofin to Ile Yoruba (Supreme Legislative Guide for the Yoruba race) by the Alaafin.

The event was scheduled for May 27 at the palace of the late king and invitation cards had been sent out.
Among dignitaries earlier expected at the now botched event were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi as the royal father of the day, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Chairman of the occasion.
However, the sudden death of the monarch has put a stop to the planned coronation.
