Esther Usen a househelp from Akwa Ibom State, has attempted to stab her employer after she was caught stealing.
A video posted on Facebook showed her employer, one Mrs. Jacinta Ohiri calling the police after Esther ran into the toilet with a kitchen knife.
It was gathered that Esther had barely stayed two weeks into her new employment when she started stealing from Mrs. Ohiri and her children.
According to Mrs. Ohiri, she became suspicious of Esther when her children’s clothes and other belongings got missing.
She called her two maids and the security guard to ask them who among them is responsible for missing items in the house. Upon interrogation, the security told her that Esther has been taking things from the house and giving them to him to keep.
“I employed Esther two weeks ago with one other lady. Initially, there were no problems. But I discovered that things started missing. I called my maids and asked them, they denied. But, today, Esther told me she was going to the bank. I told her she should wait so we can go together.
“She almost protested but agreed. I told her to come straight to my office when she returned. She came late, around 4: pm. I also noticed that our security guard was also not available as his phone was switched off. I told people not to allow him to enter until he comes to see me in the office.
“After I spoke to the security guard, he opened up to me that Esther has been stealing things and giving him to keep,” Mrs. Ohiri said.
Narrating the incident to the police, Mrs. Ohiri said she frisked Esther and found some phone numbers of people with her. He called one of the numbers which happen to be Esther’s former employers who in turn told her that Esther is wanted in connection with missing jewellery worth millions of naira.
She was asked to detain her until they arrived, at which point, Esther ran into the kitchen and took the knife and went into the toilet after trying unsuccessfully to stab her.
The knife was later retrieved from her by the police officers who were called to arrest her.
