Horror in Benue as angry youths bury two men alive over witchcraft

Benue State residents were horrified following the burial of two men alive for alleged witchcraft.
The angry youths accused the victims of being responsible for a thunder strike at Ikyve in the Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State, which killed a couple, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ihwakaa and a child.

However, the state police command, said only one person died, adding that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the dastardly act.

Angered by the sad development, youths from the area reportedly mobilised and apprehended the father of the alleged thunder victim, Ihwakaa and his alleged accomplice.

The irate youths allegedly dug a shallow grave and buried them alive.

It was learnt that the two elderly men had died before police operatives at Tse Agbaragba, the headquarters of the local government, arrived, following the report by a community leader in the area, Baba Agan.

According to the community leader: “The incident happened at Ikyve in the Konshisha Local Government Area on Saturday. There was a light rain that day accompanied by thunder which hit a young man, his wife and a two-week-old child and the three people died.

“As a result of that, youths in the village mobilised and went to the house of the father of the young man whose name is Henry and the father’s name is Ihwakaa, they attacked him and an elderly man, dug a grave and buried them alive.”

The police team that arrived exhumed the bodies.

Sewuese Anene, the police spokesperson confirmed the incident, adding that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing while an investigation was ongoing, adding, however, that only one person was buried alive.
He warned the people against taking laws into their hands, saying it was better to report grievances to the police instead of resorting to jungle justice.
