Unknown gunmen numbering about five has set ablaze the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Registration Area located in Community Secondary School Okposi Umuoghara in Ezza North local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Investigations revealed that the attackers fired gunshots sporadically in the air before setting the registration area ablaze around 2.15 am on Saturday morning.
An eye witness who craved anonymity informed Nigeria Xpress reporter that Sensitive and non-Sensitive Materials kept in the Center were affected in the inferno.
Confirming the development, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (ASP) Lovet Odah said that she received a telephone call from the area this morning alluding that INEC Registration Area Center was gutted by fire.
The PPRP disclosed that the Command had romped up rapid response to the area .
In a telephone interview, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Professor Godswill Obioma, said that he had. escalated the report of the incident to the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja.
He however directed the reporter to channel their inquiries to the State Police Command Headquarters Abakaliki.
