Gunmen on rampage, attacked police convoy, killed two in Abia

 

 

Gunmen on Sunday went on rampage in Umuahia South council area of Abia State.attacking a police convoy and killing two policemen.

The incident occurred at Ubakala four days after some gunmen also stormed a checkpoint and killed two soldiers in Umuopara Umuahia, near the Abia-Imo border.

The latest incident involved policemen who were attached to one of the federal lawmakers in the state.

According to reports, they were traveling in a Toyota Corolla at about 9pm Sunday when their convoy was attacked by the gunmen who were dressed in black and disguised as policemen wearing police jackets.

Police reports stated that the convoy had mistaken the gunmen for police officers but became suspicious after the gunmen blocked their convoy.

After identifying themselves as policemen, the gunmen sensing danger immediately opened fire on them while the officers also returned fire.

In the ensuing gunfire, two policemen were killed, The gunmen reportedly fled the scene as policemen from nearby Ubakala Division responded with gunfire
