Gunmen abduct Catholic bishop in Imo

Palpable fear has gripped residents of Owerri, Imo State capital, following the abduction of the auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Bishop Chikwe Moses.

Bishop Moses, it was learnt, was in line to take over from Archbishop A. J. V Obinna who has retired.

The cleric was on Monday reportedly kidnapped while coming out from his Owerri residence.

confirming the sad development, the Archdiocese of Owerri said in a release: “Your eminences, your graces, your lordships, it is sad to announce to you that our Auxiliary Bishop, Chikwe Moses, has been kidnapped. There has not been any form of communication from the kidnappers since his kidnap on Monday.

“Trusting in the maternal assistance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we pray for safety and quick release,” it concluded.

According to the spokesman of the Imo State Police Command, Orlando Ikeokwu, the police had spread its dragnet to apprehend the kidnappers and release the cleric.
