Gunmen abduct Abuja Chief Imam, 2 sons

Gunmen have abducted the Chief Imam of Yangoji Central Mosque in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, and have since placed a N10m ransom 9n their head.
The trio, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar Gbedako and his two sons, Aliyu Usman Abubakar and Ibrahim Abubakar, were abducted from their home by the gunmen, who invaded the community.

Some members of the gunmen reportedly took positions at strategic places and shot into the air while three others accessed the Islamic cleric’s house by scaling the fence.

It was gathered that the hoodlums also rained bullets on both the front and rear doors before they could enter the Chief Imam’s room from where they took him away with his two sons.

Meanwhile, a member of the family, who did not want to be identified, said the kidnappers had contacted the family to demand N10 million ransom before the man and his sons would be released.

Spokesman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the incident, saying the investigation was ongoing and efforts were on to rescue the victims.

Josephine added: “The FCT police commissioner, CP Sunday Babaji, also urges members of the Yangoji community to remain calm and provide any information that will help the police in arresting the suspects.”
