Govs, deps. Pension bill causes stir in Jigawa Assembly

A bill that would ensure former governors‎ and their deputies to start benefiting from pensions after serving the state chief executives cause heated debate amongst the members of the state assembly.

The bill which was read on the floor of the Assembly, on Tuesday, by the Speaker Alhaji Isa Idris, was seeking for the members to consider the reading of the bill for the second time, but it met with stiff resistance by the member representing Dutse, Alhaji Musa Sule, who challenged the bill.

According to Musa Sule, the bill lacks further explanation or clause that could exclude governors or their deputies that have also secured elections to the National Assembly‎.

However, the bill scaled second reading when the Speaker finally called for a voice vote which was overwhelmingly accepted by the members.
