Gov. Sule inaugurates committee to design coat of arm, flag for Nasarawa

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has inaugurated the Nasarawa State Emblem Development Committee, charged with the responsibility of designing and developing an independent coat of arm, to showcase the economy, culture and traditions of the people of the state.

Governor Sule inaugurated the committee, at a ceremony at the Government House,  on Thursday.

According to the governor, the committee, which is has five weeks to carry out its assignment, will also design and develop an independent flag and motto, to serve as a symbol of identity and also complement the coat of arm of the state.

Governor Sule also said under the federal system of government, component states are allowed to have their own flag, coat of arm and anthem.

While noting that several states of the federation have already adopted their own independent emblem, as a symbol of their identification, Nasarawa State is yet to adopt her own.

“The general objective is to protect and project the economy,  culture and traditions of the people of the state, as a symbol of identity,” he stated.

Members of the committee, who were selected based on their records of experience, professionalism, patriotism and pedigree, has Mohammed O. Egye, a retired director of arts and culture at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, as Chairman, while Danladi Tukura, Director,  Mobilization and Orientation, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, is to serve as Secretary.

The 7-member committee, which has Mukhtar Wakil, Public Relation Officer, Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, is to be guided by four terms of reference.
