An undergraduate, Ishola Oluwaferanmi, identified to be a student of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), on Tuesday, appeared before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged possession of Indian hemp.
The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the Court that the 23-year-old student, committed the offence on April 17 in Oye-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of the state.
He alleged that the defendant was caught on the campus with five wraps of Indian hemp by the university security officials, who later handed him over to the police.
According to Okunade, the offence contravenes Section 5 of the Nigerian Indian Hemp Act, 2004.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
NAN, however, reports that the defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Tunde Olayemi, urged the court to grant him bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with one credible surety in like sum.
Adegboye consequently adjourned the case until May 24 for hearing. (NAN)
