Former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili has given his support to Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara in his ongoing political feud with his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, commending him for preventing Wike from turning the state into his private property.
Odili commended governor Fubara for
courageously standing up to Wike by preventing him from taking over the treasury of the state which would have allowed him to capture the state, adding that the political war the FCT minister is fighting with the governor is unnecessary.
The former governor spoke at a Christmas party organized by him to honour Governor Fubara and his family.
He praised the governor for his courage and “the fortitude and sterling leadership qualities he has demonstrated” in spite of the ‘unnecessary war’ waged against him by Wike since October 25, 2023 in his ferocious attempts to take over the state’s Treasury despite having left government
“Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the State as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance and made civil servants and Rivers people happier as it used to be until he left office in 2007”, Odili said.
Governor Fubara thanked Odili for the reception and attributed his ability to survive the political war to God whom he said has liberated the state by ensuring he (gov) triumph over the political crisis and those behind it.
He added that with the support from the people of Rivers State, he has used he crisis as a motivation to deliver good governance.
“I get stronger in this course every day when I look at the support I am getting from the true Rivers people. So, it is not me being strong. My strength is drawn from everyone of you that is here. You gave me the encouragement; you do the work for me; you make the calls for me. So, why won’t I stand up for you.
“But we also believe strongly that the ultimate game changer, the ultimate liberator, and the ultimate fighter still remains God Almighty and because we have Him on our side, victory is assured,” the governor said.
He assured Odili and Rivers State people of his administration’s commitment to providing quality governance and making the state better with remarkable records of progress,
Governor Fubara also thanked political leaders in the state for standing by him and not give to tyranny and oppression and promised his government ‘will not be tyrants.
“We will remember that what we are doing here today is a shift job, and that one day, our time will be up, and we’ll leave for another person to take over.
“And what is important is to allow the machine to keep running effectively, so that when the other person comes, he continues with that steam for progress in the State. So, I thank everyone of you for your support.”
