Four police officers face orderly room trial for extortion in Imo

 

The Imo State Police Command has subjected four of its personnel, who were caught in a viral video, maltreating and extorting money from people on the road, to an orderly room trial.

The quartet were arrested following an allegation against them by staff of a film production outfit, who had come to the state to shoot a film.

The accused police officers were shown in a viral video manhandling the victims and extorting dollars that was found in their bags.

The dollars meant for the movie shoot but despite explaining that they were not real, the police officers remained continued to intimidate and extort money from them.

According to ASP Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Command spokesperson, who spoke in a statement, the outcome of the orderly room trial would released when concluded.

Policemen in Imo State are notorious for extorting motorists and could be seen openly extorting people at gunpoint, especially among the Owerri – Mbaise Road and other routes around Owerri, the state capital.
