Four dead, 3 rescued in Mushin building collapsed

Four people have been confirmed dead while three were rescued alive from the four-storey building that collapsed at 4, Oye Sonuga Street, Palm Avenue, Mushin, Oye Bus Stop, Lagos, on Friday, September 23.

The  rescued three were  adults while the recovered dead bodies were two adult males and two adult females.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) the victims  were dug up from beneath the rubbles of the collapsed portion of the 3-storey building.

The collapsed portion of the old house was alleged to be a recent structure constructed and attached to the original structure said to be over 40 years old. The new structure  collapsed about 11:45a.m on Friday.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins who visited the site of the collapsed building, directed that the adjoining building be pulled down immediately to forestall further collapse and for safety.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, have been directed to unravel the immediate and remote causes  of the collapsed building. The building served as residential, commercial complex with a bar and underground nite club,
