Four cops nabbed, to face trial for extortion

Four policemen caught extorting motorists in Lagos, have been arrested and currently facing trails.

The policemen, who are serving personnel from Maroko Police Division, were captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media, extorting monies from a citizen.

A statement by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), confirmed the arrest of the operatives.

The statement issued late on Thursday, September 2, read: “ The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a video going viral on social media exposing some Police officers in Maroko Police Division extorting money from a citizen.

“Peeved by the unprofessional conduct of the officers as captured/revealed in the video, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, directed that the erring police officers should be identified and arrested immediately.

“In compliance with the directive,  therefore, all the four police officers have been arrested and detained. They are currently facing disciplinary actions.

“While condemning this inglorious act , the Commissioner of Police vows to deal decisively with any police officer found acting in such or other  unprofessional manner in the Command.”
