Fayemi appoints new provost for state college of education

...as female genital mutilators renounce trade in exchange for empowerment from govt
From Priscilla Ofunre, Ado-Ekiti
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has approved the appointment of Prof. Victor Olufemi Adeoluwa, as the Provost, College of Education, Ikere- Ekiti.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, in a statement on Monday in Ado-Ekiti , said Adeoluwa, a Professor of Education, was former Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Development), Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
This was just as local female genital mutilators in the state surrendered their instruments of trade and embraced empowerment booties from the wife of the state governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.
The repentant FGM Practitioners  also signed a pact with the state government not to return to the practice that had damaged the lives of many female children in the state.
Mrs. Fayemi, who praised the converts for renouncing the obsolete practice at both Ikole and  Omuo-Ekiti while flagging off  women empowerment and advocacy programme across the 16 local government areas of the state, presented them with cash gift for them to establish legitimate businesses as means of livelihood.
“If you continue to refrain from the practice, the state government will give you more empowerment. The practice is obsolete and I want you to drop it. There are many others who are not here amongst you, go and talk to them as well”.
The first lady promised that the government won’t surrender the  war being waged against rape, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM),  child slavery and open defecation that have constituted national shame to the state.
