Fallout of APC national convention: Gov. Sule appeals for calm

In the aftermath of the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has appealed for calm among supporters and followers of two prominent political leaders from the state.

Governor Sule made the call in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Ibrahim Addra, on Thursday.

In the statement, the governor expressed concern over the infighting between the supporters of Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Tanko Al-makura, following the outcome of the convention.

He, therefore, called on  both the supporters to bury the hatchet and to copy from the two political leaders who have since accepted the outcome of the exercise.

Part of the statement issued by Mallam Addra reads, “Nasarawa State Governor, His Excellency Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule has observed with concern recent unsavory outbursts, bickering, bitter exchanges and sometimes use of foul and unprintable language between supporters of prominent sons and political gladiators in the state following the outcome of the just concluded APC National Convention.

“This development is not only detestable but signifies retrogressive politicking; the kind that divides and retards progress.”

The governor was quoted as saying that even though the outpouring of emotions was understandable at such moments, the situation calls for caution for harmony, peaceful coexistence and growth of the party.

Governor Sule called on supporters to emulate the politicians who have since moved on. Recall that Sen. Al-makura paid a congratulatory visit on Sen. Adamu, where he promised to support the new national chairman of the APC.

The governor urged that citizens do everything within their powers to remain peaceful and avoid actions that will portray Nasarawa State to the rest of the country as being unable to manage its victory.

“In spite of the outcome, all well meaning citizens share the belief that it is better that the National Chairmanship position still came to Nasarawa State; we should therefore be seen to be grateful to Allah for this and other blessings to our dear state,” the statement added.
