Anti-Bomb Squad of the Enugu State Police Command has detonated an explosive device suspected to be a bomb in Ovuorie Ugbawka community in Nkani East local government.
The device was discovered by a member of the community following suspicious movement by yet to be identified persons in the early hours of Monday.
Members of the community were suddenly woken up around one o’clock in the morning when a former chief security officer of Ovuorie Ugbawka neighborhood watch group, Mr. Okwudilichukwu Nweze raised an alarm upon discovery of an explosive device after observing suspicious movement.

According to Mr. Nweze, he observed unusual flashes of torch light moving in a straight line in a farm land near his compound but the light went off some minutes later.
The parish priest of St. James De Greater Catholic Church Ugbawaka, the Reverend Father John Chikodili Nworie, who was among the stakeholders contacted at the time of the discovery, said he had earlier dismissed the suspicion of an explosive device until he saw the object clearly in the morning.
Transition Committee Chairman, Nkanu East Local Government Area, Mr. Sidney Okechukwu Edeh commended the police and other sister security agencies for quick response to distress calls put to them.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public relation Officer in Enugu State, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe proved abortive as he did not answer calls made to his cell phone.
