Ex-Kano gov, Shekarau dumps APC to NNPP …Says, ‘I was unfairly treated’

Despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to stop looming mass defection of senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, on Wednesday, dumped the ruling party for the newly formed New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, on Wednesday.  announced the defection of Shekarau, the Senator, representing Kano Central Senatorial District.

The former governor, in his resignation letter, gave injustice and unfairness by Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as reasons he was leaving.

“I am defecting from the APC to my new party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party as a result of unfairness, injustice by Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“For the past two years there have been unresolved crisis in Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress. Hence, I have resigned my membership,” the letter read in part.
