Ex-finance minister, Dr Onaolapo Soleye dies at 90

A former Nigeria Minister of Finance, Dr. Onaolapo Olusegun Soleye has passed on four days after clocking 90 years. He died in the early hours of Wednesday.

Soleye was also at different times a commissioner for finance and commissioner for lands, trade, industry and commerce in Ogun State. He had also previously held the position of commissioner in the old Western region.

Just last Saturday, November 11, one of the ex-minister’s adopted sons, Dr. Gbenga Adeoye issued a release, praising him on his birthday and describing him as a mentor with a faultless record.

Dr Soleye is survived by his wife, Modupe Womiloju Soleye, and biological children, including Olamide Soleye; Abimbola Fadimu; Oluwafunmilakin Soleye and Eyitayo Soleye.

Besides Dr. Adeoye, a Lawyer and Chartered Accountant, Soleye’s other adopted children are: Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi and Town Planner Stephen Adewolu among others.

Soleye’s burial arrangement, according to a brief statement on Wednesday, would be announced to the public after the family’s meeting and conclusion.

The deceased was described as an asset in the premier University of Ibadan Sociology Department.

Fondly called Baba Legba, the late minister was described in the statement as a man of integrity with zero tolerance for corruption.
