Enugu police arrest 11 armed robbery suspects, recover guns, ammunition

Mr. Suleiman Balarabe, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu state, said the command arrested 11 armed robbery suspects in different parts of the state in the last one month.

Balarabe said this on Friday at the command’s headquarters in Enugu State, while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command in the last one month.

He said that the police recovered seven locally made pistols, one AK 47, 38 live ammunition and 45 live cartridges from the suspects.

He gave the assurance that the command would sustain its fight against crime and criminality, adding that it would make the state uncomfortable for criminals.

Balarabe said that on March 14, the police arrested a Fulani man for allegedly being in possession of one local pistol, one AK47 and 28 rounds of live ammunition.

He said that the suspect was nabbed when he reportedly attempted “to injure” one Joseph Anyansi of Amankpo Farm Settlement at Ukpabi area of the state.

He said that the suspect was helping operatives of Adani Division in their investigation and would be charged to court after the investigation.

The police boss also said that on March 20, at about 11 a.m. the police arrested two suspects, one Fidelis Nwancho and Onyekachi Odo, for unlawful possession of some firearm.

He said that the command recovered three locally made pistols, five rounds of 9mm live ammunition, 25 live cartridges and one Sienna Bus, with Reg. No. NLE 339 YD from them.

He said that the suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation at Nsude community, along Oji-River Road near 9th Mile, while two members of the gang escaped.

Balarabe said that on March 9, the police also arrested one Emmanuel Uchechukwu at the Independent Layout axis of Enugu metropolis, while he was robbing his victims with a toy gun.

He said that the suspect was cooperating with the police investigators and that he would soon be charged to court.

He also spoke on the reported kidnap of a reverend father on March 11 along Nsukka Road, saying that the command arrested three suspects in Port Harcourt in connection with the incident.

He said that the suspects had made confessional statements, admitting their involvement in the crime.

The police commissioner said that the command recovered one AK-47, one SMG sub-machine gun, one pump action gun and one berretta pistol from the suspects.
