The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Tuesday granted six states the authority to regulate their electricity markets with Lagos State not among the states.
The six states are Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Oyo, and Edo States.
According to NERC in a statement on its X handle, the six states were granted the authority having established their electricity regulatory agencies which will now allow them to oversee the electricity markets within their jurisdictions.
“This regulatory measure can be referred to as the Order of Transfer of Regulatory Oversight of the Electricity Market in Oyo, Enugu, Edo, Imo, Ondo, and Ekiti States ‘from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC or the Commission)’ to the States Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC),” the statement stated
It added: “These six states are now authorised to regulate their electricity markets following the transfer of authority from NERC, having established their electricity regulatory bodies.”
