Ekweremadu withdraws from Enugu PDP guber primaries

A former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, who is gunning for the governorship seat in Enugu State has withdrawn from the governorship primaries of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Director-General of Ikeoha Campaign Organisation (ICO), which is the campaign organisation of Sen. Ekweremadu, Mr. Charles Asogwa, disclosed this in a statement issued, on Wednesday.

According to Asogwa, “We wish to inform our supporters and Nigeria that the former deputy president of the senate and foremost governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022,” he said.

Although no reason was given for the withdrawal of the lawmaker, it is not unconnected with the existing cold war with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and the leadership of the state chapter of the PDP over battle for the party’s governorship ticket in the state.

Sen. Ekweremadu’s withdrawal came just a few hours to the Wednesday’s governorship primaries of the party in the state.
