Federal Road Safety Corps , FRSC, Kaduna office, has explained how an auto crash killed 15 children on Sunday September 15
The accident occurred along Saminaka Road in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to the Corps Commander Kabiru Nadabo, the children were traveling in a J5 commercial bus conveying 63 children ahead of Monday’s celebration of Eld El Maulud, when their bus collided with an oncoming trailer.
The driver of the J5 bus reportedly lost control due to overspeeding which resulted in the accident killing children instantly, and 48 sustaining injuries.
“This accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving. We urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies, ” Nadabo said
He said the injured are being treated at the Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital.
“This accident is a wake-up call for all drivers to prioritise road safety. We will continue to educate drivers on the importance of safe driving practices
“As the families of the victims mourn their loved ones, the nation is reminded of the need for vigilance on the roads.
“We must learn from this tragedy and work towards preventing such incidents in the future.”
He advised drivers to be cautious and obey speed limits, especially during festive periods.
Nadabo added that the command has began an investigation into the incident.
