Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information/Orientation, Barrister Uchenna Orji, has reiterated that the government targets a total of 4 million citizens to be captured in the National Identity Card registration executed by the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC).
Barrister Orji made the assertion in Abakaliki on Tuesday during a joint media parley with his counterpart in the Ministry of Youth/Sports, Mr. Charles Akpuenyika on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Council Chambers Government House, Abakaliki.
He said that the state government was worried at the complacency exhibited by the citizenry of the state in the registration exercise so far which had placed the state at the bottom compared to other states in the country.
According to him, “the state government set up a Committee to assist in boosting the registration of more Ebonyians, this Committee has the mandate of interfacing with the Consultant that would ensure creation of 100 number Registration Units , sensitization will go to the rural communities”
“We are targeting 4 million Ebonyians to be captured in the National Identity Card Registration, this committee would ensure adequate sensitization of the masses of the state”

“Government looked at the status of NIMC compared Ebonyi State with other states of the federation, we are at the bottom, we needed to raise the sensitization, government took steps and resolved to key up with the arrangement of NIMC.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Committee set up by the state government would interface with the Consultancy firm to ensure that registration exercise is intensified across all nooks and crannies of the state.
Barrister Orji reiterated that the National Identification Management Commission liaison with the World Bank have arrangements where Consultants can be raised on the request of state governments .
“There is a synergy between the NIMC and the Consultant that may be raised by the state government to help the Commission ensure proper registration, the Consultant is at the liberty to use the Services of NIMC through the personnel it would recruit to boost Geometric Registration Process”
“Ebonyi resolved to key in, raised a Committee to interface and monitor them, the objective is to create synergy and boost the state registration status”
Earlier in his contribution, the State Commissioner for Youth/Sports, Mr. Charles Akpuenyika , said that the state had put in adequate measures to ensure glorious outing in the 2020 National Sports Festival billed to hold in Edo State in April 2020.
