Ebonyi Perm Secs to earn N500,000 monthly, says Gov. Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has restated that the newly-appointed Permanent Secretaries in the state’s civil service would earn the sum of N500,000 as monthly salary.

Governor Umahi made the declaration at the Executive Council Chambers, in Abakaliki, on Tuesday, during an oral interview organised by the government for 38 intending Permanent Secretaries shortlisted for the position.

He said that the state government would select 26 persons of the 38  shortlisted, two Permanent Secretaries from each local Government council,”

The governor maintained that the State Government would reduce salaries of Permanent Secretaries to N500, 000 monthly stressing that their selection would be based on merit.

His words, “I am to choose 26 permanent secretaries out of the 38 , we want to bring brilliant ones into the system, if you don’t score above 60 percent there would be no chance for you.

“One thing the administration is committed is to reform the Civil Service , in weeks time we will roll out robust training for Civil Servants, if you do bad in Information  and Communication Technology ( ICT), we will find you another job”

Earlier in his speech, Chairman of the Interview Committee and deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Keleochi Igwe, said that a total of 18 Judges had been appointed to evaluate the performance of the intending permanent secretaries at the end of the interview.

According to him, “More than two permanent secretaries per local Government would be selected provided that they score up to 60 percent, this would form the opinion for selection of the successful ones.

He said that successful permanent secretaries would be inaugurated in no time.
