Dutch police detain suspect in Facebook live streaming of child abuse

Dutch police have detained a 27-year-old man, name withheld for allegedly abusing an eight-year-old boy and broadcasting the crime live on Facebook.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Leiden near The Hague, police said in a statement which was released on Monday.

The police said several individuals had seen the footage and alerted the police.

The police officers were able to identify the flat where the abuse took place by looking at objects in the footage.

The man was detained there, while police also found the eight-year-old boy at the property.

The child is now receiving psychological counseling, while the suspect is a relative of the boy, police said.

Police said the child does not have a fixed residence and was in the flat only temporarily.

The police statement, however, did not give details on the abuse. (NAN)
